Huggies Suck
Huggies diapers suck.
I mean it. They’re awful. Huggies leak and they hardly absorb anything. I changed one of the girls one time and then fed her. She was sitting my lap as I was feeding her and she ended up peeing all over me. Not cool really…
Although we prefer to use cloth diapers, we have had some issues with rashes and in that case we end up using disposables to help keep the moisture off the babies skin. While the babies were in the hospital, they used Pampers. We’ve generally stuck to those and haven’t had any trouble really. The first week or so they would occasionally fall down below the baby’s butt, but I think that was just us not getting them on correctly as it hasn’t been an issue since. We haven’t had any leaks or anything like that.
Huggies on the other hand seem to leak around their legs. Also, they’re much less absorbent. I’d have to guess they can only hold about half the liquid that the Pampers can, and we’ve had times when they’re literally just been saturated and it started leaking everywhere. And it’s not like they hadn’t been changed in 5 hours or something either.
I must say that the only reason we have Huggies at all is because someone we know had various diapers she didn’t need and she gave them to us. I wouldn’t recommend actually paying for Huggies though..
Really, I assume that, just like bigger people, babies come in all shapes and sizes and probably some brands fit some babies better than others. Regardless of that though, Pampers are far more absorbent than Huggies.
And just to continue my bashing….I went the Huggies website hoping to find some slogan about how great their diapers are (I didn’t find one, though I didn’t look far), but instead I found that their site sucks as well. It literally goes to a big international page that makes you select your country from one of 20 or so selections. Would it really be that difficult to look at the IP and just guess at which version to display? A simple link at the top of the page to see international versions of the site would account for errors. I hate it when websites don’t bother to guess where you’re from..

I would agree with you - babies come in all shapes and sizes and probably some brands fit some babies better than others. Our first son was a large baby - big chubby fat legs and tummy. Pampers would leave red marks on his legs because they weren’t large enough. We used Huggies because their tabs were more soft and flexible than any other diaperl. Our second son is much thinner and the best diaper we have found for him is the Target brand. We also usually use cloth, but when it comes time for a disposable it takes a little time to find the right one and sometimes the right one changes as the babies grow.
Like you we had the pampers in the hospital…but they were much too big…so we had my sister go out and get some preemie diapers…they happened to be huggies…and they leaked…and poo came out when she did her business….since we’ve been home we’ve switched to Luvs….and they hold a ton…we change her after each feeding…and sometimes that’s three hours…and sometimes in those three hours she will saturate the diaper from end to end…and they’ve never leaked….they are great….AND they are a couple bucks cheaper than huggies/pampers and the packages come with more diapers for the lesser price…it’s a win win…..
just thought I’d share

It’s no suprise to me that Huggis sucked eight years ago and they still suck (or don’t suck enough) today.
For my son, Huggies has worked the best, but I think it’s because he has fat roly poly thighs. But I also have found that when his diaper starts leaking consistently it’s time to increase to the next size up. Don’t necessarily go by the weight limits on the diaper packages. Different diaper manufacturerers are definitely sized differently. Huggies seem to run smaller than Pampers. I think in general, the companies are consumed with getting the diapers as thin as possible. I remember changing my niece and nephew’s diapers 10 & 8 years ago and their diapers were alot thicker than what I’m using now.
I babysit a kid who will be 3 in March. She wears huggies and leak just about every day (sometimes a few times a day) when they get full. I wish her folks would switch brands, but who am I to tell them which brand to buy?
When I was pregnant with my oldest son, I bought a copy of the “Baby Bargains” book. In the diapering section it mentioned that when polled, most parents to girls preferred Pampers and most parents to boys preferred Huggies. It seemed to be the case for us until I switched to cloth.
Huggies are just terrible. We were given a variety of diapers from our baby shower. We used the Pampers swaddlers first as that was what they used at the hospital, and when they ran out, we opened the Huggies. They were rated up to 10 pounds, and our son weighs 9 1/2, however, these things were GIGANTIC on him! No matter how tight you strap them on, there is WAY to much room around the legs, and we have a mess EVERY time he goes to the bathroom. We have to change and wash his outfits several times a day, not to mention the sheets. I hate to throw out the almost 40 unused diapers, but these are just worthless. We’d be better off stuffing napkins in his onesie. I can’t bring myself to toss them, I’ll just see if I can find someone who will take them. We also have some Luvs from the shower, and I pray they work better.
The best diapers we’ve used for our daughter are Teddy brand from Superstore (Canada). They rarely leak and fit her well through all the sizes. The only time I tried huggies was when it came time to potty train and we tried the pull up style. They sucked, she couldn’t even pee once in them without leaking. I know they’re designed to let the kid feel wet so she’ll be more likely to try the potty, but when it soaks her pants anyway, what’s the point of having a diaper on at all.
