"First, let me make it very clear, poor people aren't necessarily killers. Just because you happen to be not rich doesn't mean you're willing to kill."
-- George W. Bush - Washington DC, May 19, 2003

Patient

Does anyone else find it ironic that the same word that means:
Bearing or enduring pain, difficulty, provocation, or annoyance with calmness.
and
Capable of calmly awaiting an outcome or result; not hasty or impulsive.
also is the same word meaning
One who receives medical attention, care, or treatment.
?

Have people always had to wait a long time at doctor’s offices? Is calling the customers patients just a way of calming them down? Maybe we should refer to rioters and insurgents as “peacefuls”. I think that might help.

Interestingly, the first definition of patient is why in my child development class we say that taking care of kids requires UNDERSTANDING, not patience, because kids aren’t difficulties to overcome, especially when you understand why they do what they do.

But, in order to be a patient, much patience is required, so I don’t think it’s a coincidince that the words are the same.
