Nice 360 Secondary Market
I was curious how much an xbox 360 would go for on ebay (link will be dead after a couple of days) and I looked last night. There were many auctions that were just ending that must have been 24 hour auctions that people had put up when they got home the night before after it came out. The first one I clicked on went for $905….it sold in the store for $299 + $60 for the game that was also in the auction…nice profit. MS has said that they purposefully are restricting supplies so that it sells out everywhere…
(The auction didn’t mention a HD, so I’m assuming it was the cheaper $299 system and not the $399 one….either way though…)

It’s funny that people are still fooled by the hype generated when a game system sells out of the artificially limited supply on the first day. This is the oldest trick in the book for building hype when any new product is released, but it’s especially ho hum for a game system launch. Hey Bill, Coleco called and they want their marketing strategy back.
It must work though since the companies keep doing it. A month from now when you can go into any store and get one for retail people will remember the news coverage and think of them as rare and THE toy you have to get for Christmas.
The media actually covers it like a news story. “Oh noes!! There won’t be any more 360’s available before Christmas! Teh horror!!” One of the Grand Rapids TV stations had a live broadcast from outside a Best Buy.
If I’d realized in advance that the launch was this week I would have waited in line for 12 hours or so at Meijers to make a quick $600. Hmm, maybe next year for the PS3 and Nintendo Revolution launches….
