WordPress 1.5.2 is out, but why post about it? I just happened to notice it and there are over 70 trackbacks on the post. Of course, this shows up on everyone’s dashboard (the first screen you generally see when you log into the admin portion of WP), so why does everyone need to post about it? Anyone who uses WP already knows about it, and anyone who doesn’t use it won’t care because it’s a minor update that addresses a few security issues and a some bugs. It’s not a compelling, “come look at the new features and start using WP” kind of update. Posting about it is just totally redundant and I can only imagine that most of the people (I’m sure a few provide some sort of useful insight) are either a) Just kind of dumb OR b) Just hoping for traffic from the post. All I can say is, sign me up for the latter!

B: Traffic.
Posting about WP is what got me here.

Just make sure it’s “I’ve just upgraded” rather than “I am planning on upgrading”. Crackers will no-doubt scan the pingbacks to look for the latter-type of post and find vulnerable blogs.
