Not Picky About My Music

Jul 02

Posted: under Music.

I was talking to someone last week and he was saying that he’s only ever heard a few albums that he thought all the songs were good. I think I’m not too picky about my music in general. I have dozens of CD’s that I like every song. I have very few (that are “mine” and not “Milenka’s”) that I only like a couple of songs. Furthermore, I generally have a hard time figuring out what music is “better” than other music…. It’s all a matter of personal opinion of course, but I have a lot of stuff that I would say is about on the same level….good. I’m just not picky.

I like all kinds of music. There’s not a lot of music that I can’t say that I don’t like on some level. At the same time, I can make fun of almost any genre on some level as well. The easiest to make fun of is country of course…. :) I like lots of stuff. The last album I got was electronic….a first for me. I like it though, quite a bit.

But then there’s metal. I may like some music in many genre’s, but metal I like as a genre. It’s what I default to as my listening preference. I can listen to just about any metal and be into it. (This is why I have a playlist of 826 songs (which is mostly metal) and put it on random and have it work out OK). I do have a line, mind you. Metallica’s St. Anger is the most god awful piece of trash I’ve ever heard. That’s an exaggeration, but truthfully the good part of the album are pretty much ruined by Lar’s shitty sounding drums (among other things that ruin each song…), so the whole thing is more or less unlistenable.

Because of that as well, the buy by the song theme of iTunes doesn’t do much for me. It’s nice to have the option available, but in almost all cases I’m interested in buying an entire album and not just a song or two. I’m buying the sound more than I’m buying that one song that I really liked.

Is anyone else like this? I know that probably most people are more picky than I am about music, but do you lean more towards songs or entire albums?

Four Day Weekend

Jul 02

Posted: under General.

Lucky me. I’m staring down the front of a 4 day weekend just now.

This of course brings up the question of what to do exactly. Milenka is working all weekend, although she does have Tuesday off. Speaking of which, Tuesday is my birthday. I don’t know we’re going to do, but we’ll figure something out. Until then though, I’ll mostly be on my own. I figured she was going to work on Monday, but I was hoping she’d be done by 9. Instead, she’s working until 10. This means there’s not really any chance of trying to catch some fireworks anywhere. I really don’t care that much about fireworks and haven’t actually gone to see any in quite a few years. I know Milenka likes them though, and I was hoping we could go this year. I guess not.

I have plenty to do, really. I have a huge list of things to do around the house that I haven’t really gotten around to doing at any point. I also have the last disc of the second season of Andromeda and the first disc of the third. I also have Alien in my hands (I’ve never seen any of the series actually…). I was thinking of watching the Matrix again for some reason as well……I probably won’t watch all of that though :) I’ve managed to accrue a bit of a pile of things to blog about. They’re all staring me in the face as I’ve started saving my ideas as drafts and setting them up to future post when done. I once tried to do this with MT, but it didn’t really work out. The primary problem was that I couldn’t futurepost with MT (2.6x), so I’d have to leave the posts on draft and then I’d forget about them. I’d occasionally find a post from some time ago that was just never set to publish. I quit doing that with drafts for just that reason. I’d thought I’d gotten them all, but even as I imported everything into WP I found that there was still one set to draft. WP doesn’t have this problem. Futureposting aside, it throws links to all drafts up towards the top of the page when you go to write a new post. There’s no way to forget about a post left on draft. I probably won’t be posting like 15 times this weekend though…..I’ll save some stuff for later on when I don’t feel like writing.

I also may try my hand at geocaching at some point as well. I’ve only gotten out once so far this year because I’ve been working almost every weekend since it got nice out. The money’s nice anyways…

I should do something to make the rest of my life work better as well probably……more on that later I suppose.

I’ll just try to enjoy it while it lasts.

Listorium Progress Soon

Jul 02

Posted: under Projects, listorium.

I should be able to make some good progress this weekend. I have plenty of time to do so. I’d love to be able to have a beta out by the end of the weekend (my weekend goes rather long, so I actually mean the middle of next week, mind you… :) )

Previously, I was creating a RSS feed by hand for the project. What I’ve done now instead is to create a category on my blog in which to post everything. WP is nice enough to create a feed for the category, which will then serve as a project feed. I only had a couple of items in the feed previously, so it was simple to go back and create posts for those. The old feed url redirects to the new one.
