Firefly On Sci-Fi

Apparently Sci-Fi has picked up Firefly and will begin airing it on Friday, July 22, in order (this is important to note because Fox showed them in the “wrong” order. The DVD’s show it in the “right” order. The original airing actually started with the second episode, a train heist, instead of the episode where the whole crew gets together in the first place….). They even plan on showing the 3 episodes that never aired (it was canceled before they could finish). If you’ve never seen this show, here’s a great chance to check it out.

Firefly is a show that is usually described as being a “sci-fi western”. It’s set in the future and covers the adventures of the crew of a small cargo ship, named Serenity (it’s a Firefly class ship). Basically, the crew is poor and they take on odd jobs (frequently of the not exactly legal type) to make it by. They’re kind of living on the fringe of civilization in a way, which adds to the western theme. Most of the show looks very western as well….just with spaceships and whatnot. :) The show was created by Joss Whedon. He’s best known for Buffy The Vampire Slayer and also the spinoff show Angel. Firefly retains the same quirkiness that Buffy fans know and love. TV Tome (now TV.com it seems….) probably has a better summary than I do.

If you never had a chance to see this show, check it out. It’s definitely cool. The timing of it is also good, because in September the movie, Serentiy, comes out. From what I’ve seen of the trailer, it looks like the movie will pretty much be a rehash of the show. I’ll be there opening weekend. :)
