Blog Rocket

Blog Explosion (I’m far too lazy to link here…) has added a new “game” called blog rocket. It’s pretty cool really. There’s a list of 25 blogs. It shows the title and description of each blog along with a link to go to it and a count of how many times people have been there just now. There’s a link you can click on that adds your blog to the list at position 25 and the blog at position 1 is then bumped off the list. Every time someone adds their blog you move up until you eventually get bumped off. As an incentive for people to visit the blogs listed, you’re entered in a drawing for free credits that will take place at the end of the month when you visit a site. It allows you to enter once per day. On top of that, supposedly it will randomly give away free credits when you visit the sites, although I have to admit that after visiting 20 or so I have yet to win a thing.

It’s fairly typical for most sites to get 10 – 15 hits by the time they get to the #1 spot. Pretty simple way to generate traffic for just a click (of course, no one is required to stick around for 30 seconds like they would be if they were surfing, but I doubt that will have a huge impact on how many people actually read an entry or two anyways).

This coincides well for me as I feel like I need to generate some traffic. Rather, perhaps, I need to generate some content. :) Visits are down probably around 33% or so in general and there have been a couple days where it’s been down closer to 50%. I’m guessing this has something to do with me not posting for days on end…..go figure.

I think next week I’m going to switch over to WordPress. I’ve been thinking of doing it for quite some time but I’ve avoided it because that’s what I do I haven’t wanted to deal with having to redo all of my templates. I think I can deal with it though. It shouldn’t take that long to play around a little. Plus I’ll have to find a security code for comments like I have now….I’m sure there’s something like that available somewhere for WP. It works so well I just can’t see giving it up.

New Opening Day Record

May 21

Posted: under Movies.

Damn. Episode III took in just over $50 million on Thursday. That’s a record for both opening day and for one day. I had heard earlier in the day that they guestimated that the midnight showings alone took in about $16 million. I was looking for these numbers before I went to work, but they hadn’t been released yet. I knew it would be impressive… This will probably be the biggest movie of the year.

I think I’m going on Tuesday.

The Numbers has a performance comparison that graphs out the amount that each Star Wars movie brought in. It’s interesting if you’re interested… :)
