April Snow
So weather is smalltalk. Blogging about the weather is kind of lame. I know I’ve done it before, but not usually in a post of it’s own. But damn it, I enjoy talking about the weather….
We have snow. It’s covering the ground (about 90% anyways). It actually snowed all day yesterday, but for the most part it was too warm to accumulate. On the other hand, when I got out of work at 10:00 last night, I had to scrape my windows, though the roads were just wet still. It’s supposed to snow more today and I see that we have a high of 36. On the other hand, tomorrow we’re back up to 49 so anything we actually get will melt right off.
This is of course no big deal accept that it’s the end of April. It usually doesn’t snow at the end of April. This past Wednesday it was 80 (unseasonably warm, although I see it was that warm last year at this time as well for a period). Now it’s snowing. This is the crap I have to deal with. Pfft.
The saying is April showers bring May flowers….where the hell does the snow fit in?
(It’s actually funny as well, because I was looking at the average monthly rainfall for P-Town here and our rainiest month, on average, is actually August, which I’d think one of the driest..)

For me the cold and snow is a blessing in disguise. The great weather for most of last week killed my motivation to actually study for finals. When it gets really nice I just want to chill outside- even went to the beach one day last week, although it was too windy to be that great.
We went to the club (Margarita something) in GR last night and ended up parking really far and freezing our asses off on the way in. The girls in our group still dressed like it was in the 70’s- and there’s not a damn thing wrong with that! But still, it was odd to trudge through a couple inches of snow in late April.
Channel 13 in Grand Rapids still has their “weather ball” that that lights up different colors to let you know the forecast, and last night it was completely dark. If memory serves…”Weatherball red, warm weather ahead. Weatherball green, no change forseen. Weatherball black, nuclear attack!”
Today it’s cold enough that it shouldn’t be too bad to stay in writing papers, doing proofs, and other fun crap all day. For the next four days, I need to have the work ethic of a Pakistani math grad student…
