Diecast in VW commercial

I happened to see a commercial (it amazes me how many commercials I actually see since I do skip over them…) for VW’s Jetta yesterday and I heard something familiar. The commercial has this guy driving his business partners (or something) to the airport in his Jetta. The guy sitting in the passenger seat (old conservative looking guy) reaches over and turns on the radio at which time about the first five seconds of a metal song plays. The clip is so short I had to listen to it a couple of times to be sure it was actually something I knew, and it was. A few minutes with my iPod confirmed that the song was Diecast’s Rise & Oppose. Googling it, I found that they make mention of it on their website (it’s actually under their news section, but is shown on the mainpage for now…..there doesn’t seem to be a way to link to individual news items :( ). You can also check out VW’s commercial’s if you haven’t seen it. This one is called airport.

The funny thing is that they play about the first 5 seconds, and the idea is for it to come off as shocking, yet in the next 5 seconds or so they start screaming and the bass drum hits about 4 times a second….too much I guess. :) And not to be picky (that’s a lie of course…), but the radio shows the song as being “track 4″ while the actual song is the 5th track from the band’s newest album, Tearing Down Your Blue Skies.

I thought this was rather cool because Diecast is a not terribly popular metal band on an indie label. It’s cool to see them get something in the mainstream, even if no one will recognize it who hasn’t heard it frequently already… :) I thought the song choice was odd as well, but according to their site they were due to premier a video for the song at headbanger’s ball, er, today I guess. Good for them. They’ve got some good shit.
