The Beauty of The Monthly Index

Ahh, behold, the monthly index, isn’t it grand?
The monthly index, that would be when you click on the month over there in the sidebar and it shows you all the entries in said month. It’s a beautiful thing really. It does wonders with search engines. People can have keyword hits that actually come from multiple posts and they end up here when they otherwise wouldn’t.
Sometimes I think it would be most logical to just tell search engines not to index those pages. I mean, really, it’s kind of wrong. It makes for one of those situations where you can search for something not really find what you’re looking for because your keywords are in totally different areas (posts) and have nothing to do with each other. All of the entries also have their own page as well, so there’s really no need to have the search engines index the monthly indexes (I’ve never been a fan of the word indices…).
I can’t really bring myself to stop them though. There have been lot’s of times when I know people have come for one reason and then found something else and commented on it There’s just too much potential there… 
There’s something for everyone …
That is to say, I’m a traffic whore in this regard so I’ll use whatever dirty tactic that I can to bring people in… 
You’d think I could look through my searches and find some really funny examples of this. Look at this month at least, I don’t see anything funny. Oh well.
