Geek On The Mountain

Milenka Hoax

I have a confession to make. Milenka isn’t real. The whole thing has been a big hoax. I made it up. It’s been going on for years now. Let me explain.

I created “Milenka” years ago just for fun. Anyone can be anyone online, so I thought I’d try my writing skills out as someone my age only female. Over time, I developed this whole storyline that many of you have seen unfold. It’s really been quite interesting. To be honest, I’m not even me exactly. Some of the things I’ve said about myself are true, but many aren’t. It’s all been to further Milenka.

You might begin to wonder how I did it. Obviously with the blog itself it’s pretty easy to write as someone else. All the pictures you see are of from someone else’s site that I copied a long time ago. I don’t even think the site is around any more. Despite anything else I’ve said, I am truly a geek and I do quite well not only as a writer but with photoshop as well. The pictures you see from time to time are mostly modifications of old one’s. The photo’s and the writing have been a challenge, but that’s what was so fun about it all.

You may recall that Cindy “lived with us” for a time. She’s a friend who I paid to go along with all of this. There have been others as well. If you’ve ever chatted with Milenka you’ve really been chatting with me. My actual job allows me to work more or less at my leisure so I tend to be free at all times. I even wrote a bot that can hold it’s own in a very basic conversation. Nothing to complex mind you, but if you’ve ever chatted with Milenka in a simple conversation then you were probably dealing with the bot.

I’ve done all of this because of the challenge of it and also as an experiment. I love to see different social phenomena’s and seeing how people react to the total creation of a person over such a long time has been interesting to say the least. A few people have managed to figure out the truth, but everyone was nice enough to keep my secret after I explained everything to them. They’ll be free to come out of the woodwork and tell their stories of what clued them in now.

You might be wondering why I’m stopping now. It’s been a long time. While the project continues to interest me, I find that it is taking up more and more of my time as I have less and less of it. I’m about to start a new job that will take a considerable greater deal of time than my current one, but I couldn’t ask for anything more in the job besides that. I also tend to think that I’ve learned the majority of what this is to learn. Surely though, after all these years, Milenka will remain a part of me.

I think that I’ll keep up the illusion for another post or two on Milenka’s site. There are so many different ways to play the whole thing. It really is fascinating, but it will come to an end over the next few days.

Thank you to everyone for all of your support over the years. What you were trying to support may not have been real, but I know truth in your hearts is as real as you can possibly get. I’ll miss you all.

Honest.
