CPU Fan Replaced

My CPU fan was showing signs of being back to how it was before I lubricated the bearings earlier today so I went ahead and replaced it. It lasted 12 days….that’s almost 2 weeks. Like I said before though, it could have gone much much longer had I not used WD40….. :)

The new fan/heatsink is much larger. I was going to take a comparison picture but I forgot. Trust me when I say this new one has plenty of cooling power….It overhangs the ZIF socket a bit and for a moment I was afraid I might end up cutting some capacitors off of the motherboard to make it fit. ;) It actually fit fine and its…well, big. What can I say, it’s rated for an Athlon XP 3200+ and I’m running a 1700+. I think I’ll be alright. I like it better than the old OEM heatsink though. It tended to keep the CPU only within 10 degrees of the case temp whereas this one seems to keep it within 5, even under load. I like.

Speaking of hardware, I still haven’t found my missing mouse. It must be somewhere but who knows. On the upside, I found that I can buy a new one for $25 so I’ll just place an order and then I won’t have to worry about it.

Some of the newer chips actually run cooler than the older ones. :)
