More Simpson Credit Cards

Jan 31

Posted: under TV.

They’re up to their old tricks. Last spring they flashed some Viza credit cards and they did it again in yesterday’s episode “Mommie Beerest”.

This time, Marge tossed the card through the air straight to Moe and it flashed on screen for just a second.long enough to see it was a Viza anyways. Thanks to the miricale of TiVo, I also know that it was card number 4410 0122 3344 5590 and issued to Judge S Snyder on 00/00 and expiring on 5/1/05.

Last time around, the cards started with the number 8, which to the best of my knowledge isn’t a valid number (or at least not a number of any major card). 41100112233445590 starts with a 4, which does actually mark it as being a Visa card. How they constructed the rest of the number is beyond me. :)

The episode itself was merely OK. I’ve seen worse, and I’ve certainly seen better. This season has been lackluster at best so far.

Homer does manage to pull out a card that says “Homer Simpson Plus-size Butt Model” though :)

A Little Progress

Well, I’m down about 4 pounds overall anyways. That’s at least something.

Last week (or the week before I guess….they all blend together) I started to eat better, or rather less I should say. This leaves me feeling hungry but that’s pretty much inevitable when you’re used to eating a lot and you try to cut back. Oddly, I get a good sense out of it all anyways. I think it’s more satisfying than feeling full in a away. I didn’t completely cut back quite so much last week with my being sick and all. I’ll have to start again, but I’m sure that I’m better off now even than I was a couple of weeks ago anyways.

The pull-up thing quit working out really. This is mainly because we’ve tended to have a temp helping out lately for various reasons and this person ends up working in the area where the bar is, so I don’t have much in the way of a chance to use it like I would if I were doing that job. Secondly, I quickly found that a square bar isn’t really a good thing. I hadn’t really put any thought into it, but after using it for a couple of days my hands felt bruised from the uneven weight distribution. I got over that but it’s still a bit of a deterrent. I’ll still practice when I get a chance, but I’m not making plans to do 2 in a row for anytime too soon.

Our treadmill doesn’t work quite exactly right. Something is broken on it, and the bar on the bottom of it that adjusts it’s slope won’t stay in place. This means that it’s at it’s maximum incline at all times. This makes for difficult walking if one wants to use it. I gave it a go for about 10 minutes one day. Not only did my legs get tired really quickly from walking uphill, but my arms were just as bad. If I don’t hold onto the handrails, I start to fall off the end of the treadmill. The only way to avoid that is to walk faster. Even though the thing is motorized, when I walk faster, it moves faster. Of course with it moving faster, I fall off the end faster. The equilibrium is when I’m into a slow jog. Uphill. I can’t do that for long. So my only alternative is to use my arms to pull myself up, which gets tiring after a little while. The treadmill is out really.

I’d love to jog instead. It would work out great with my iPod. This silly winter thing is getting in the way though. Really, it’s been too cold. I can’t remember a winter this cold or snowy in a lot of years. I don’t mind it if it’s even 20 degrees out, but 5 is a bit too cold for exertion. Not that it matters anyways. The sidestreets around my house where I would go have been at least partially covered in snow and ice for weeks now. It never gets warm enough for them to melt off all the way before they get snowed on again. Maybe this weeks they will though….it looks like it’s supposed to be in at least the upper 20’s all week.

Another Week

Jan 31

Posted: under Personal.

Last week was a fun one. I was sick for most of it, so it was just kind of there and gone. I had a cold or something. I’m feeling a lot better now, though I’m still not completely over it.

I got some fun toys. I’ll have to post some pictures sometime here… that’s about where the fun stops though. I didn’t really get too much accomplished. Of course I didn’t feel up to accomplishing much either. Maybe this week will be better. It should be anyways.

I worked all weekend, again. We haven’t had a day off yet this year, although the last couple of Sundays we haven’t needed to work the entire day, which is nice. I’m thinking this Sunday we probably won’t have to work at all, but as usual, only time will tell. I may just take a day off during the week anyways. I’ve never worked this many days in a row before. I may have had enough.

Milenka and I cooked together the other day. It’s nice to be able to do that again. We made her spaghetti, which is basically just a spicy sauce and then you put shredded cheese on it as well when you serve it. It’s really good. We used to make it a lot years ago, or rather she did, but she hasn’t in a long time now. I was making it for a while, but even that’s been some time now.. Also, I always did it wrong. It never came out quite right. I think there was some sort of confusion going on with the doubling of some ingredients when they really shouldn’t have been. At any rate, it came out right this time.

I’ve been reading the Anita Blake series lately. I’m going through it relatively quickly because I’m reading it at home as well. Usually I do most of my reading at work during breaks and lunch, which really only leaves me with at most about 30 minutes of actual reading time(once you take out time to actually eat food and such) per day if that’s all the reading I do. They’re really good. It’s this whole world that’s basically like ours except vampires, werewolves and other such monsters actually exist. Vampires actually have rights and you need a court order to legally kill them even. The main character, besides killing vampires, raises the dead for a living. They’re well written murder mysteries with the supernatural twist that have action, action, and more action all back to back. Apparently the series eventually turns into a huge orgy (there’s like 10+ books thus far) and is totally different. I’m almost through the third one though and they’re really good even without the sex.. :) I’m also still reading Raymond Feist’s Riftwar Saga books….I’m on the second one right now. I have 4 of them altogether. I can safely say that they’re not as good as the Anita Blake books, but they’re pretty good.

I have too much TV to watch as well. I always wanted to see the older Andromeda’s. They spent all fall playing only the latest season that I’ve already seen over again. Now they’re replaying the first season so I get like 4 or 5 episodes a week….I think I still have 6 or 7 of them waiting plus Stargate Atlantis and The Simpsons. And here I used to never watch TV… :) TiVo is a blessing and a curse.

I’ve also been thinking a lot lately about getting my lip pierced (bottom one, in the middle). The main deterrent really is the aftercare which basically involves cleaning it a couple of times a day and rinsing your mouth out with anti-bacterial mouthwash any time you eat anything at all. You do this for somewhere between 6-8 weeks… Despite that, I’ll probably do it anyways sometime here…most likely a little bit closer to spring than not I guess.

I also added a counter at the bottom of the sidebar just for kicks. I didn’t feel like making AWStats or other log info available so a sitemeter counter is a compromise. Exactly how accurate it will prove to be is beyond me.

I’ll see what my weight is in the morning. I was down a few pounds overall last week. If it would warm up a little bit (which it looks like it kind of is) I might be able to jog a little.

Konfabulator

Jan 30

Posted: under Technology.

I first tried out Konfabulator when it first became available for windows (it was originally designed to be usable by only 5% of us, for mac users, that is). Sadly, I want to say that was back in October sometime. I’m just getting around to writing about it now. What can I say? It’s been on my todo (or topost rather) list… :)

Konfabulator is a neat program. It is a collection of “widgets”, which are individual items that do all kinds of different things that will sit on your desktop (or rather so close to your desktop you’ll think that’s where they are). They do all kinds of different things from tell you the time to serving up quotes, the weather, phase of the moon, or about anything else someone has thought of. Words don’t exactly describe it….go to the website and the main page has a desktop full of widgets. It initially came with 8 or 10 different widgets and, a few months ago anyways, there were about 400 more that were downloadable from the site. A lot of the 400 were slightly different plays on the same idea, so there aren’t exactly that many unique things going on with Konfabulator, but there was plenty to choose from. The things I ended up using were a weather thing, a picture frame that was setup to change pictures every so often, a moon phase indicator, a quote thingy or two and a sun position indicator that would move across the screen as the day went on. All this stuff sits on your desktop so you can just minimize everything and see all of it. Or, there is a hotkey you can hit that will bring all of them to the front so you can interact with them until you hit the key again (or esc or something). The widgets generally look very pretty, so if you’re a sucker for pretty gui’s like I am then this will be eye candy to you.

It’s supposed to be shareware, but after a while of seeing nothing about “buy me” I began to wonder if they were serious about actually wanting $30 from me if I was going to continue using it. Eventually, after a few weeks, a widget of it’s own popped up saying I needed to pay and I couldn’t close it.

Ultimately, I found it mostly useless for me. The quote widgets I had installed didn’t really work right. They were supposed to get quotes from a database online, but it seemed like they just displayed the same 8 or 10 quotes over and over. Everything else was rather trivial except the weather widget, which I loved having. On the other hand, I already had a good way to check the forecast and all, so even that wasn’t a huge deal. I ended up uninstalling it because it wasn’t really doing me any good. Still, it’s a fun little program. If you’ve got a little time on your hands, go check it out.

Anyone want a cat? We just need to close up the box and he’s ready to ship out.

His brother is cute enough to eat.

(That’s a paper plate someone knocked onto the floor he’s on)
