Posted: under Personal.

Milenka hit her goal weight for new years today, 2 weeks ahead of schedule.
(She’s yelling at me right now for using the computer and ignoring her…apparently I don’t care at all :P )

Congratulations and I love you.

Dimebag follow-up

Dec 18

Posted: under Music.

I’m sure anyone who cares knows by now, but looking back at my original entry on Dimebag I just feel the need to post a few quick updates.

Dimebag was the only member of the band who was shot. Also killed were a fan who jumped on stage to help out, the band’s head of security, and a bouncer. The band’s acting tour manager and a drum tech were shot as well.

Why did it all happen. David Gale was a schizophrenic who was discharged from the military two years ago because of his mental condition. His mother is on record as saying he was getting better and she thought everything was OK. Gale was obsessed with Pantera and became convinced that the band had stolen lyrics from him. It was all about revenge. Delusional, totally misplaced revenge.

I Made It Into The NY Times (who knew?)

Dec 18

Posted: under Technology.

I received mention the NY Times. Well, Me and 10,000 others. Spreadfirefox.com (that’s purposefully not a link) finally published their ad on Thursday. People donated money and in return they would have their name included in the ad. The original idea was to publish it around the time of the release of 1.0, but not necessarily on the same day because they were getting a discount for having it published inside of a 2 week window. They were supposed to send out an email letting everyone know before it was published so people could pick up a copy.

I just found out 10 minutes ago.

I’m rather irked. The email didn’t hit my inbox until late last night, which means I didn’t get to read it until this morning. I can still pick up a back copy of the paper, but that’s not exactly the point. It was posted on the site itself Thursday morning. They knew it was running and they didn’t even bother to email anyone. That’s just rude. But they explain it so well in their email:

We apologize for sending you this notification on the day after the ad
has run. This kind of campaign has been a first all of us (in fact, it’s
been a milestone achievement for open source!) and at times a bit
overwhelming.

So it’s all understandable. They’re new to this whole thing. They’re not used to sending out email… Come on, I understand that to an extent. That’s an explanation for the delay in publishing the ad period (1.0 has been out for quite a while now), but not for the lack of communication. (it’s good to note too that they didn’t do a very good job at communicating the delays). It’s no more difficult to shoot out an email than it is to publish on their site…

There are also some other problems with the formatting that they had originally indicated would be used. That’s understandable to an extent, and at least they’re taking corrections.. (they’re going to sell a poster that has all the corrections).

I’ve changed my mind about that link come to think of it. A lot of other people feel the same way, check out the announcement.
