American Indian or Native American
I came across this article on google news about a museum. They use the term American Indian, which to me means someone from India who lives in America. The article mentions tribes and a feathered headdress, so I’m guessing they mean Native Americans….
I hate trying to deal with being politically correct and I think generally the whole concept is just stupid to a point. In this case, however, I think it makes total sense. If African American refers to someone originally from Africa who is living in America then shouldn’t American Indian be someone originally from India who is living in America? Perhaps it’s the subtle difference in word order. But it seems to me that if word ordering makes a big difference, then the whole thing should flip around. That is to say, an American African would be someone originally from America living in Africa. That doesn’t really fit our description either.
I don’t think the best way to distinguish between the two different groups is to call one American Indians and the other Indian Americans. It all pretty much makes no sense.

I noticed that too. It seemed weird to me that they didn’t say Native American. I mena, American Indian is such an old-fashioned term. And i also don’t bother much with political correctness. But I think in the name of clarification the should have used the better term.
