Let the Season Begin

I got the list of new caches last night and someone set one up in one of the parks downtown. I know the area, and it’s close by, so I just couldn’t help myself so I stopped by while I was out paying some bills. I had planned on going for a jog anyways, and the park was as good a place as any to do so.

I forgot that I suck at geocaching. It was a simple location where there weren’t a whole lot of places to hide. Yet it still took me forever to find it. I think I need to think more systematically about how to find these things. It’s weird though, because I’ll walk into an area and find the cache almost right away sometimes, and other times I’ll wander around for 20-30+ minutes. I get the impression that this happens to other people as well, because some of the ones I find right away are marked as harder than simple and other people logged having some difficulty, and vice-versa (everyone logs how simple it was to find the cache that took me 45 minutes :) ). Anyone else geocache and have this issue?

Is anyone even listening?

The funny thing too is that I had wanted to put a cache in this park last year, but looking around I never really found anyplace that seemed suitable (wouldn’t be found by everyone else). This park gets quite busy in the summer. Oddly as well, the cache is contained in an 8 inch length of steel pipe, capped off at each end. You know, about the right size for a pipe bomb. I’m glad there weren’t many people around when I found it. If I saw someone standing in the park with a pipe like that, I’d definitely think “bomb”. Somehow too, since it’s right next to a war memorial, it seems even worse. But that’s just silly old me.
