Geek On The Mountain

There's not really a mountain

Finally I know!

I’ve always wondered what kind of lesbian I am, and now I finally know!

You're A Tomboy!
Tomboy:
You dress pretty casual and you have short hair
that’s pretty easy to style. You are probably
frequently mistaken for a young boy. You are
very passionate and fall in love easily.

What Kind Of Lesbian Stereotype Are You???

Not a huge supprise I suppose…

Virii that run rampant for no reason

I feel the need to mention a frequent problem. The problem is virii (such as the latest that exploit MS products. Hell, this one is exploiting a bug that MS released an update for last month.

Now the root cause here is faulty programming on MS’s part. Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot you can do about besides not using their stuff, which isn’t always practical for most people. On the up side, MS has gotten better about security and bugs in general in the last couple of years.

What you can do is check Windows Update (which interestingly enough MSBlast is set to launch a DoS attack on this weekend (that is, flood the site with so many bogus requests that it is unable to respond to legitimate ones)) on a regular basis (such as weekly, you can also configure windows to do this on it’s own). You should also be sure to update your virus definitions just as often (Norton AV can do this automatically as well).

I simply must vent about

I simply must vent about people not using their turn signals.

I see it all the time. Frankly, I think maybe a third of the time, people don’t use their turn signals when they actually turn (this includes that annoying group that turns it on at the second before they turn, what good does that do?), and maybe half of the time people actually use it for lane changes.

This irks me to no end. I’m quite sure that everyone was originally taught to use their turn signals. At what point exactly does a person decide that it isn’t important to communicate their intentions and just stop using it? That’s utterly moronic.

The worst when people hit their brakes while driving for seemingly no reason, only to end up turning. It’s a matter of common courtesy and safety.

That being said, one of my turn signal lights burned out on my way to work today :)

I’ll follow up my driving issues with a problem we have where I live. The road is about 2.5 car widths wide, so with a car parked on the side of the road, there isn’t just a narrow lane being left in which to drive, but it is not wide enough to fit two cars through. There are parking lots all over. Often times, people are too lazy to park in them. The worst example is one that I see from time to time.

As my crappy drawing obviously depicts, There is a road that makes an S shape (although in this picture it is a C shape) around a house. On the outside edge of this road is one of these parking lots. The problem is that someone decides to parallel park in the road next to the house, instead of parking 20 feet over in the parking lot. This effectively reduces the road to one lane for no good reason!

Wealth

I have a tendency to be obsessed with money.

I am not a rich man.

To some extent, it is an amount of status. An example of this from this weekend (sort of) comes to mind. We were in Saginaw and did some shopping and went out to eat. It reminded me of a similar trip from earlier this year. The trips made me feel like we had money and could live comfortably. It is a very good feeling. I don’t think it’s even necessarily so much what other people think (although no matter how much I tell myself that that doesn’t matter to me, it know it does to a point), but more how I feel about myself/us.

It is a wealth that I do not have, but someday will (or such is my plan..)

I wouldn’t really say that we have much money at all. The list of things I want is short, but existent. My PPC (which I have named Axle (being an Axim…)) was on my list. I have it thanks to tuition reimbursement from work. The speakers have been blown in my car for almost a year now (by no fault of my own of course), and I desperately need new speakers. Of course, to get the quality replacements that I need, I’m looking at spending a couple of hundred dollars. I also have a watch I am in love with that wouldn’t cost me nearly what Citizen says should be charged. These are things that I won’t have any time soon and I am OK with that.

I’d love to have a bigger house that is actually a house with a yard. Another dream. Another impossibility at this point in life.

On the other hand, I have Milenka. Though she would vehemently disagree, she is beautiful. I love her very much and I know that she does me as well. Though I may not always let her know it, she is what I truly want out of life.

I guess I am rich after-all.

PPC update

When I got home from work last night, I checked on my order status for my PPC. As I had hoped, it had arived at FedEx and had been assigned a tracking number. I checked the tracking number and FedEx indicated that it had arived in Romulus (150 miles away) at 9:30PM. It said it would be delivered by Tuesday at 4:30PM. I thought three business days to move a package 150 miles was a bit of a stretch. I was rather upset. The good news is that when I checked this morning, it had made its way to Flint already and has been loaded onto a truck for delivery, which usually means that it will arive today. Woohoo! I guess FedEx gives you an “arive by” date as opposed to UPS who gives you an actual day that they have it scheduled for delivery. Here’s hoping it arives before I go to work…
